On Holy Trinity Sunday, May 30, 2021, at 3 p.m., in the parish church of St Hermagoras and Fortunatus in Gornji Grad, the episcopal consecration of the newly appointed Bishop of Celje, Msgr Maksimilijan Matjaž took place. The principal consecrator was the Apostolic Nuncio to Slovenia, Msgr Jean-Marie Speich, co-consecratos were Archbishop of Izmir, Msgr Martin Kmetec and the retired Bishop of Celje, Msgr Stanislav Lipovšek. The ceremony was held subject to Covid-19 measures in a limited circle of guests, representatives of priests and believers. RTV Slovenia and Radio Ognjišče broadcasted the ceremony.
