On Sunday, September 26, 2021, at St. Joseph in Celje, the central celebration of Slomšek's Sunday took place. It was an opportunity to revive his saintly character and work and strengthen its significance for modern times. It was also a day of encouragement and prayer for canonization or proclamation of Slomšek as a saint. The retired Archbishop Msgr Dr Anton Stres led the solemn mass.
