Explanation of SBC: In Current Situation, All Vaccines Are Ethically Acceptable for Catholics

20.3.2021 Cerkev na Slovenskem COVID19, Katoliška cerkev, SŠK

In recent days, the media have summarized SBC's position on the vaccination against COVID-19, which was published on the Catholic Church website at the end of January this year. At SBC, we would like to explain that the bishops emphasized in their statement that vaccination is beneficial and that it should be free, voluntary and that those who cannot get vaccinated for health reasons, for example, should not be discriminated against. The Catholic Church invites all Catholics to get vaccinated after consulting their doctor, thus protecting their health and their loved ones' health. Given the limited amount of vaccines available in Slovenia, the faithful currently cannot choose their vaccine. Therefore, SBC thinks that they can get vaccinated with any available vaccines: Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna or AstraZeneca. At SBC, we expect that the state will provide larger quantities of vaccines as soon as possible and the possibility for Catholics to opt for those more morally appropriate vaccines.
