The Church shares the sacraments by laying on of hands, showing the meaning of closeness. A deacon is a servant of the Church in humble love, giving himself to the Church wholly. The promise of celibacy helps him put Jesus Christ at the centre. His first ministry is prayer; however, he must not follow the world but the impulses of the heart and the will of God.
